We would like to share this typical Dutch recipe with you called "Hutspot met klapstuk'

  • 500 grams of braising beef
  • 400 ml of water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 8 whole black peppercorns
  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and cut into pieces
  • 8 large carrots, peeled and cut into pieces
  • 4 large onions, peeled and cut into rings
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter for cooking

What to do:

Melt the butter in a big pan. Add the beef and sear on both sides. Add the bay leaf and peppercorns and some of the water so that meat is halfway under water. Bring the water to boil. Simmer the beef for about 90 minutes. If the water runs out, add more. The beef is ready when it is nice and soft.

Put the potatoes in a large pan, put the carrots on top and cover with the onions. Add water until the potatoes are just under water. Cook them for about 20 minutes until they are cooked (they are soft enough if you can prick them with a fork). Drain and mash the potatoes, carrots and onions all together. Add some salt and pepper for taste.

You can either slice the beef in small pieces and mix it through the potato-mixture or you can put it on top.

You can use the grease of the beef to make a nice gravy. To do so, add 100 ml of water r to the grease after you removed the bay leaf and peppercorns. Cook the gravy until it gets a bit thicker.

Put the potato mix and the beef on a large plate and add some gravy.

Eet smakelijk!
