Music pumped out across the campsite as the Schwarzhaus (or rather the black fortress) came to life and it didn’t take long for IST to arrive. Schnittchen (a type of pork liver pate), Pretzels and Currywurst, as well as a selection of German (alcohol free!) beers were served to a hungry and thirsty crowd. A large dance tent is hazy with dry ice, the DJ is keeping the songs coming all night long and IST can be seen throughout the tent dancing away.
Mogli, one of the organisers tells us that this black tent style is very typical for German scouting, and several ‘black tents’ can be brought together to build larger structures like this - this makes the setup very flexible, and allows for a lot of improvisation. 16 people are working the Schwarzhaus and it took 3.5 tons of materials and 4 days to put it together.
Mogli believes that this is the first proper Schwarzhaus Foodhouse at a Roverway.event.
A group of IST are relaxing with a drink, discovering the different drinking customs from their countries: ‘cheers’ is about knocking the bottoms of bottles together, not the tops! “Also, you must look each other in the eyes when you do this.” Others are enjoying their first sausage and agreeing it is really good. The whole tent is alive with IST partying and eating, dancing and drinking. The IST had this first night at the Schwarzhaus, the camp is ready, are you?
