The IST have definitely earned a day off, and the 27/7 and 28/7 was an opportunity for (almost) everyone to take one day off. So many activities were available for the IST to take part, from workshops to day-trips, from escape rooms to sailing, the air was filled with the sound of IST relaxing, enjoying, and sometimes even learning!
First thing in the morning we caught up with a group of IST who were sailing. Life jackets on, we boarded boats in groups of 4 or 5, with an instructor. Sails up, the small boats were quickly skipping across the lake’s calm water - everybody took turns steering and managing the sails, and quickly learned how to take control of the boat. For everyone on board it was nice to have a cool breeze, and occasionally a splash of water!
Later, in the midday heat IST were locked into a tent and asked to escape one of two escape rooms. Challenges, riddles, logic puzzles and LOTS of padlocks were involved! For some the heat melted their brains, and escaping became impossible, others had just seconds on the clock before they finally managed to escape.
After lunch the IST boarded a coach to Elburg, a city with a small medieval walled town centre. The old-town centre is very picturesque, and provides a welcome break from the busy Zeewolde campsite. Many of the IST are taking advantage of the Cafes and Restaurants that line the streets, and also picking up essentials from shops such as sun cream, lip balm and deodorant - others are busy writing and sending postcards to friends and family back home. All too soon it is time to board the coach to return to Zeewolde.
Back at the camp everyone is getting excited to see the lunar eclipse that evening - it took a while to show itself, but much later in the evening the dancing at the Rainbow cafe came to a halt when everyone rushed outside to see the ‘blood moon’ hanging low in the sky!
